Statehood Day in Hawaii

On August 21, 1959 Hawaii became the 50th state in America.  So now, we celebrate it every year!  It's always the third Friday in August.  Me and my family and friends picnic'd on Magic Island to celebrate!

Heat waves!  Haha, actially the heat was from our hibachi, but still it was a hot day!

Me and Jess's genius idea to hang up a hammock on a pole - it worked!  :)

Ryan's '80s Glenn Minami twin fin - the lifeguard was a little jealous!  You think he'd pay $1,000 for it?  I'll ask him next time!  :)

Coconut Willy

Coconut Willie lives in a tree
Plenty pupule, easy to see
All the malihini think he's a king
They come to Waikiki to see his opu swing
His big fat opu swing!  :)

I used to dance hula to that song when I was a little kid, haha!

Bicycle Crash

The Honolulu Academy of Arts had an art show for all the famous artists in Hawaii, and there were a few open spots for new artists to enter.  Ryan's brother Reid got in!!!!  :)  That is a great accomplishment, and hopefully his art piece sells!

It's casted in bronze and it's called Bicycle Crash, priced at $1,800

It was hard to get a good picture...

Here are some other pieces that I really liked, I should've got the names of the artists, sorry!

This one was priced at $18,000!!!!!  This was the most expensive piece!  I think the artists name was Dave Young or David Young

Reid's friend made this bronze piece and won the Newcomer Award for it!  He said that the potato-looking thing with the pipe connected to it is filled with water and heated to produce steam that blows those spoons around, spinning the birds!  Really cool!  Too bad we couldn't see it in action!

Packed Weekend

Crowded at Kailua Beach.  Actually, it got 20 times more crowded after I took this picture.

Our destination: Flat Island (it's the flat looking thing)

We came prepared, 8 SUPs and 6 kayaks with 9 seats

Tandem SUPing?

Some shots from a secret spot...haha that rhymes!

Me (top) and Ryan (bottom) catching some great waves!

Ever tried night surfing?  It's illegal, don't try!  haha nah just joking!  We took a SUP board from Ryan's work place and tandemed!  It was the funnest thing ever!  I just sat in the front and held on, Ryan actually did all the paddling!  Thanks Ryan!  :)

Here's a video from last night!  It's actually kind of entertaining....there's one clip of us actually on a wave, but you can't really tell because it's so dark...  :)  Sorry about the poor quality...

Small Day at Kaisers...

There's a small little bump in town today, so me and Ryan decided to check out Kaiser's again, since yesterday was so much fun!  When we got there, it was so incredibly crowded!!!  Doesn't anyone work anymore?  I was only able to catch one wave there because all the guys were such wave hogs!  So Ryan suggested we paddle over to Rock Piles, which was a great idea!  I caught way more waves and the crowd there was super nice!  Thank you Ryan for letting me drop in on you, you're the best! <3

This is a shot of Rock Piles, pretty small day today!

I tried to zoom in and catch a good wave...I think I missed it...

This is what happens when you meet the reef, it says 'Hi' and then eats you.  That's what I get for surfing at low tide...hopefully I won't find coral growing in there!  :)

Ahoy!

irates of the Caribbean has been filming in Hawaii!  It's pretty exciting if you are a fan!  A lot of my friends went to go see Johnny Depp and the Black Pearl.  I would go but I really don't think it'd be that entertaining, maybe I'd be excited for like 10 minutes at the most....I'll wait to see the movie when it comes out!  Anyways, I thought the pictures of the Black Pearl were pretty cool (my friend has a cool camera), she makes the pictures look old!  So, I thought I'd post them!  She paid $17 to get up close to the boat on a tour, which is currently in Kane'ohe Bay right now  :)

I was surprised to find out that the Black Pearl is actually the Queen Anne's Revenge, cool huh!?
